You weren’t born to just pay bills and die… Go find a hobby
Logically minded people tend to focus on problems rather than themselves. We get distracted with wealth, work and the ever social pressure of fitting in. Every time we find something of interest we set it aside for another day. “I can always pick it up and do it tomorrow”.”Today I just want to make it trough the day, go home and watch TV”. “Maybe next month’s salary will allow me to do that one thing I always wanted.”
Bleh!!! Sigh!!! If only I picked up that one thing while I could….
Today is the greatest…
In early 2016 I figured that’s enough. I have so much I want to experience and all this rat race mentality is only doing me harm, trapped in my own cell. I want to live and enjoy my time doing the things I love to do. In the tone of The Smashing Pumpkins, It was time to throw down.
I wanted more
Than life could ever grant me
Bored by the chore
Of saving face! – The Smashing Pumpkins – Today
Time to enjoy the little things in life. I figured that never having tried a hobby of interest is worse than having no hobby at all. Besides what do I have to lose?
Have a hobby of trying different hobbies maybe? I don’t know…
Why Not?
No matter who you are, there is always a way you can find pleasure in your interests. It may seem that hobbies are expensive and time consuming but that really is not the case.
Financial responsibilities obviously take preference but I sure promise you, it does not take much to get the ball rolling. There are many “Easy to get Into” hobbies that almost anyone can start… Today.
Try it out and see how you feel about it. Your interest in that hobby will directly gauge just how much time and money you would invest in it.
What did you do, what about I.T?
I’ve always convinced people that programming was a hobby of mine. While this is true, my love for information technology is also my livelihood. I’ve also always been fiddling with all sorts of computer stuff. I practically lived in front of the family computer, always playing games and figuring out how it works. Today hardware and software go hand in hand and will be an intricate and important part of my life. I want to learn everything and understand as much as I possibly can.
Photography
So I started looking at those fixed lens cheap-o cameras. Costing me a whopping 800 ZAR (around 75 USD, from a disgruntled employee of FujiFilm). As I got it, I immediately started snapping the most… horrific, over exposed photos. But I loved it, and these were my memories that I captured. Well, needless to say – it was stolen soon after my very first trip where I managed to snap some photos of church murals, ancient ruins and village homes. I then started learning some free videos on YouTube and used my potato quality cellphone camera and learned the basics.
Soon after I felt I found myself wanting more. And so I took the jump to buy my first DSLR. Now I use my free time to learn (and I have plenty to learn), taking pictures of whatever I can. I have also joined Entelect’s photography club and enjoying the social aspect of learning… So follow my adventures as I stumble my way around this camera.
In conclusion
I hope I have encouraged you to take up that hobby. I hope you find your love in it. Remember that life is short and soon you won’t have the time to invest in these hobbies. Best of luck to you
